Where to Go for Children's Hair Cuts

For the majority of this year, I've been trimming my 3 year old's hair, but it's time for professional help! With new health safety rules, I've been trying to find a place to cut his hair that doesn't require the under 5 group to wear a mask. Hair cuts are a battle in "normal" times!!

I polled the #WEM community for salons for children that are open and do not require children to wear masks. Here are the responses in no particular order.

All information was pulled from the salon's website or the member's response. If you see an error or mask policies change, please let me know!

  1. Jesika at Avenue 42: Located in the city near The Jefferson, you can make appointments on line or by phone (804) 303-3139.

  2. Kidtopia: Located in Midlothian, this children's salon is open Tuesday through Saturday. You can make appointments, and they accept walk-ins. Per the Kidtopia website: "It is recommended that children wear a mask. However, it will not be required." This salon had a lot of recommendations!

  3. Hair Perfection: Located in Short Pump, this is a salon for all ages. Children's hair cuts start at $25.

  4. Leslie at Elle Style Studio: There are two locations, one on West Cary and one on Patterson. Leslie Chlebowski was recommended by parents. Her contact is: leslie@ellestylerva.com .

  5. Gorilla Hair: Carrie comes to your house. She wears a mask, but does not require kids to wear one. She costs $20 per child plus a $5 travel fee. For more information, visit their Facebook page.

  6. Tony's: Located on Patterson, they will cut hair outside, and children do not need to wear a mask. Children's hair cuts start at $8.

  7. Pigtails & Crewcuts: There are a couple locations, one in Willow Lawn and one on Gaskins Road. Please note that children 3 and older are required to wear a mask. A couple of parents said their children took off their masks and it was still okay. This is where we usually go & I've been pleased with it, but it doesn't work for us with the mask requirement. Here are the safety updates.

  8. Fadez and Bladez: Located in Mechanicsville, this barbershop offers children's haircuts starting at $19. A couple of parents said they are great with kids!

If you're still not ready to venture out for a hair cut, here's what worked for me when I cut my toddler's hair at home: (1) I purchased a hair cutting set on Amazon, (2) I cut my son's hair outside, and (3) I gave him a popsicle/lollipop or my phone to watch TV while I cut his hair.
