1.Ashland Theater: This historic Ashland theater hosts a monthly free event for children and their parents, and you can get FREE movie tickets on Mondays for family-friendly films!
Toddler Takeover: This special event is usually the second Saturday of each month from 10AM-11AM. The 2025 summer programs are on June 14, July 13, and August 9. During the hour long event, various child-appropriate clips and sing-a-longs are played on the screen - clips like Elsa's "Let it Go," the cast of Encanto's "We Don't Talk About Bruno," a scene from Bluey or The Kiboomer's singing about St. Patrick's Day. Children are able to sit in their own seats, a parent's lap or move around the theater. It's really interactive, noisy and fun!
Toddler Take Over Ticket Cost: Free
Toddler Take Over Ages: This event is best for children ages 0-6 years old and their grownup.
FREE Movie Mondays: Every Monday at 10am, you can get FREE for family friendly movie showings. In order to attend the movie showings, you must reserve your family's tickets at 5pm the evening before the showing. Anyone is welcome, but you need to have a "ticket" to view!

3.Bow Tie Cinemas Summer Kids Series
Between June and August, Bow Tie Cinemas offers $1 kids movies with a specific kid-friendly movie each week. The $1 kids movie series has not been confirmed for the 2025 summer yet!

4.The Byrd Theatre: The historic Byrd Theatre shows $5 Family Classics & Sensory Friendly movies every Saturday morning! Other movie times cost $9. You can purchase tickets online or when you arrive. The concession stand sells items for $2.50 to $7.50, including drinks, candy & popcorn.

5.CineBistro Super Saver Movies
If you haven’t seen a super saver movie at CineBistro you need to add it to your list! It’s very kid friendly & tickets are $5 each. You can explore the mall + run around in the play space before or after your movie, too.

6.Goochland Drive-in Theatre: While RVA's only drive-in theater doesn't have a summer freebie for kids, its prices are always affordable!
This outdoor theater shows new blockbusters, family classics & double features. It has 2 big screens - a traditional drive in screen & a lawn projection screen. With affordable concessions & 2 play areas for kids, Goochland Drive-In is a must visit for families!
Tickets cost between $18-$30 per vehicle (up to 7 guests), making it an affordable family outing in RVA.
The Snack Bar has budget-friendly food and drink options, and there's plenty of space for children to run around and play.

7.Henrico Theatre: This historic movie theatre opened in 1938, and it's now on the National Register of Historic Places! Part of Henrico County Recreation and Parks, this local theatre hosts budget-friendly events all year. You can find arts programing, special events, and movies for all ages.
The theatre hosts showings of family-friendly films and ones geared towards adults, like Crazy Rich Asians and Casablanca. You can also purchase popcorn, candy and soda for $1 too.
