Ready to take the family out to the ball game? I have everything YOU need to know about visiting The Diamond for Richmond Flying Squirrels games with kids!
The Richmond Flying Squirrels are the minor league baseball team in Richmond, Virginia, and they have games every year between April and September. While they are an affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, they infuse all things RVA into their gear, stadium and atmosphere.
The Squirrels' games are fun to attend for a date night, and they are also really fun to attend as a family. In addition to watching the baseball game, The Squirrels have silly activities during the innings like kids brushing off bases with giant tooth brushes, birthday banners are displayed on the big screen, kids can run the bases after the game, and, of course, you can meet The Flying Squirrels' famous mascots - Nutzy and Nutasha!

Here's everything you need to know about attending a Richmond Flying Squirrels game with kids!
I grew up attending baseball games at The Diamond, cheering on The Richmond Braves. Now attending The Richmond Flying Squirrels games has become a summer tradition with my children. I've attended these games on date nights, for team building activities, for birthday parties, and as a special family night out. Hopefully, these tips, tricks and facts will help you have the best time at a Richmond Flying Squirrels game with your kids!
Pro Tip: If you are looking for fireworks displays around Richmond, you can see them from around The Diamond. The Richmond Flying Squirrels have 15 fireworks shows scheduled for the 2025 season -- these fireworks displays are at every Thursdays and Saturday nights over the summer. You can watch them from inside The Diamond or from around the parking lot.
Fireworks are on select Thursday and Saturday night after the games (usually around 9:30ish). You can also watch fireworks on opening night April 4 and July 2. The largest fireworks displays will be on July 3 and July 5 -- Star Spangled Squirrels Fest!
*The fireworks show usually starts within 5 minutes of the game ending, and it lasts for about 8 minutes. The fireworks go off very close to the score board, so you can still see them if your in the parking lot, outside the stadium. If you're not inside The Diamond, you can watch the game updates on MLB's website to know when the game is ending.

How much do Richmond Flying Squirrels tickets cost?
Tickets for The Squirrels games range from free* to $50, and you can buy these online ahead of the game or at will call on the day of the game. You will save $2 to $8 by purchasing your ticket in advance on line.
General Admission tickets cost $10 per person, Terrace Level tickets costs $13 per person, Field Level tickets cost $15 per person, and Comfy Corner tickets cost $42 per person.
Pro Tips for Seating:
I prefer seats along the first base line because these seats are in the shade during most games - look for tickets in sections 101-110, sections 1-6, and sections 201-209. This is particularly beneficial if you are attending a game on Sundays. Sunday games are usually between noon and 5pm, so it's the heat of the day and the sun can get hot! This section is also behind the Squirrels' dug out.
The best chances to catch a fly ball are usually in the upper deck. Look for seats in 201 to 217 to be at the top level. Grab seating in sections 201-208 for the shade.
If you're in sections 116-120 or sections 10-15, make sure you visit the opposing team's bullpen at the end of the game. The players will usually give children a baseball once the game is over.

What's available in the concession stands at The Diamond?
During baseball games, there are a lot of food, drink and treat options. Third Base Favorites serves items like hot dogs ($3.25), corn dogs ($4.50), cheeseburgers ($7.50), chicken tenders (5 piece for $8), chili cheese nachos ($6.50), and pretzels ($5.50).
My kids love the Squirrelly Fries (cheese covered curly fries for $4), popcorn (jumbo $5) and the kids meals ($7 for hot dog, chips and bottled drink).
You can also purchase Papa Johns personal pizzas (cheese or pepperoni) and Potbelly.
Those who are 21 and older can also purchase wine, beer and adult slushies for prices between $7 and $14.

How long at The Richmond Flying Squirrels' games?
Baseball games usually have 9 innings. If the game is tied, additional innings will be added.
Typically, you will find that baseball games last 2 to 3 hours, but there really isn't a limit on the length. There are a bunch of factors in a baseball game like level of play, game play styles, and rule changes.
One of the things I like about The Richmond Flying Squirrels games is that kids can move around during the games - you don't have to stay seated. There's a lot of opportunities to dance, clap and sing during the games. If your kiddo gets antsy during the game, you can take them to the deck to walk around and people watch. You can also leave the game at anytime - you don't have to stay the entire 3 hours.
Can you host a birthday party or special event at a Richmond Flying Squirrels game?
Yes! The Richmond Flying Squirrels host special events and private events, including birthday parties for kids. For birthday parties, you can purchase bulk tickets and Acorn Dollars (like a gift card at the concession stands), or you can purchase tickets to eat in the Segra Picnic zone.
We attended a Richmond Flying Squirrels birthday party in the Segra Picnic Zone, and our tickets provided us access to an "all you care to eat" buffet that included hamburgers, hot dogs, mac and cheese, macaroni salad, cookies, and bottles of water & fountain drinks. There was also a bar in this area where anyone 21+ and older could purchase adult beverages. The birthday party host arrived early and marked off five picnic tables - this is where we sang happy birthday and had cake. Our tickets were in this section as well. This was really helpful with kids because we were able to move back and forth between or seats and the shade.
For birthday parties, you can reach out to info@squirrelsbaseball.com.

The Diamond also has a Nursing Room inside the team store. This nursing room is for mothers and babies only. Inside the room, you will find a fridge for storing milk, a seating area, and two rooms for nursing. The individual nursing rooms have their own doors too. You will also find a three stall bathroom and changing table inside this area.

The Richmond Flying Squirrels allow fans to play catch on the field before the games. Catch on the Field is open to Squirrels Tails members at every home Sunday game. Families are invited to play catch on the field between 12:45 and 1:05pm. You can bring your own baseball or borrow a tennis ball from The Richmond Flying Squirrels.
You can also participate in activities like the first pitch of the game, silly activities & competitions between innings, and run the bases at the end of the game. If your kiddo is celebrating a special milestone, make sure to reach out to The Diamond staff in advance to get your family involved.
Pro Tip: If you want to participate in the between-inning games, arrive early -- right when the gates open. Look for the FUNN Bunch Staff in the red shirts - they pick out contestants for all the games!
